SwyxGate & PSTN Cards > Connection to the outside world
In order to connect an IP based phone system to the public switched telephone network (PSTN: ISDN or analogue lines) trunking gateways are used, which convert packet-based IP voice communications to circuit-based voice.
SwyxGate is a gateway which is integrated into the SwyxWare server platform. The SwyxGate converts incoming calls from the PSTN into IP packets and adapts outgoing calls from the IP network into signals and voice transmission to the PSTN. To interface with the PSTN, SwyxGate uses standard ISDN and analogue boards connecting to the PSTN.
Swyx is offering following ISDN and analogue boards:
| ISDN QuadBRI |
GWY card ISDN SX2 QUAD BRI |
8 ISDN channels |
| ISDN Single PRI |
GWY card ISDN SX2 Single PRI |
30 ISDN channels |
| ISDN Dual PRI |
GWY card ISDN SX2 Dual PRI |
2 x 30 ISDN channels |
| Analogue |
GWY Analogue card |
4 x analogue lines |
The number of simultaneous connections to the telephone network depends on the user's configuration. It is possible to run several ISDN and analogue cards on one PC / SwyxGate, but due to PC limitations, is it recommended to operate with a maximum of 76 ISDN channels on a single PC / SwyxGate. If more than 76 channels are required, this can be achieved simply by adding more separate SwyxGates to a SwyxWare installation i.e. by adding extra PCs to the system, configuring the additional PCs as separate SwyxGates and installing the desired number of ISDN cards on the SwyxGate PCs.
It is possible to combine different boards on one SwyxGate up to a maximum of four (logical) cards. Please see example below:
Four SX2 QuadBRI
Two SX2 DualPRI (one SX2 equals 2 logical boards)
Two SX2 SinglePRI and two SX2 QuadBRI
Two SX2 DualPRI and two SX2 QuadBRI
Two SX2 SinglePRI and two analogue
